Second 40 mile week in a row... a little tougher than the first. Probably not the best idea to squish the majority of the mileage into the last 3 days of the week: 9 on Friday, 4 on Saturday, 12 on Sunday...that 12 miles was ugly.
Bright side: It gave me plenty of time to catch up on my How I Built This podcasts.
Still good to get it all in though. I went back and compared notes with my 2009 self, and I realized that it took me from March to July before I ran my first 40 mile week. After typing that just now, I suppose it's not much different than this year, I just started earlier (late December). I've never run consistently in the winter months before, so it feels great to start Spring/Summer with a decent level of mileage under my belt. This Sunday put me at 392 miles in 2017 so far. No much for many...too much for most...but more than enough for me, myself, and my marked-down $35 Mizunos to manage.
Rest week of 15 miles. No real reason other than a busy few days at work and I decided to stack a few rest days on top of one another. The second best part of getting back in shape is getting back in shape.. the first best part is taking days off. It's so nice.
Back at it this week, though, starting with a 4 miler tonight: 1 mile warm up in 9min., 1 mile at 6min pace, 0.5 easy, 0.5 in 6 min pace, 0.35 easy, 0.35 in 5:45 pace, 0.3 easy.
It was a tougher workout than I would have liked. Mostly because I still have 15-20 lbs to lose. Back in 2006-07 I would jump on the treadmill and hammer out 3 miles in ~18min after a month or two of spotty training.. sadly I'm not there yet, but maybe by July/August.
